A tragic incident occurred where a young mother, Marilha Menezes Antunes, passed away just weeks after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) as a birthday gift to herself. The 28-year-old underwent liposuction on her back along with fat grafting to her buttocks at a private clinic in Brazil. Her father and sister, Léa Carolina, were present during the surgery and recounted hearing a nurse urgently calling for an ambulance without providing details.
Upon investigating, it was discovered that Marilha died from hypovolemic shock, internal bleeding, and blunt-force trauma, despite the initial report of a bronchoaspiration and cardiorespiratory arrest. Family members assert that Marilha was in good health, had consulted with a doctor, understood the risks involved, and completed all necessary pre-surgery assessments. They believe that a punctured organ led to fatal hemorrhaging and are demanding answers from the clinic in Rio de Janeiro.
Describing Marilha as vibrant and full of life, Léa expressed deep sorrow over the turn of events, stating that she had hoped to fulfill her sister’s dream but had instead faced tragedy. The clinic, in response, clarified its role as a day hospital providing facilities for independent medical teams to perform procedures and emphasized its equipped surgical center capable of handling emergencies promptly.
Marilha, a mother to a six-year-old boy and employed as an occupational safety technician in the aviation industry, is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation into her untimely death. The clinic, Amacor, has pledged full cooperation with authorities in the inquiry process.
