A police detention of a teenage girl has occurred due to suspicions of poisoning food meant for her parents and cousin. The incident unfolded in Nova Serrana, Minas Gerais, Brazil, where the 17-year-old girl allegedly confessed to adding a toxic substance called chumbinho to meals prepared by her mother on January 7. The poison, typically used for rodents, was found in the food intended for her 35-year-old mother, 41-year-old father, and 36-year-old cousin.
The girl’s actions followed a disagreement with her parents, leading her to mix the poison into the meals. Major Renato Geraldo da Silva, a spokesperson for the Military Police, revealed that the girl expressed anger over her parents’ disapproval of her romantic relationship. The toxic substance, already present in the household, was surreptitiously added to the meals in retaliation.
Upon consuming one of the contaminated meals, the cousin noticed an abnormal texture and ceased eating. Subsequently, the parents refrained from consuming the poisoned food. The cousin sought medical assistance, underwent treatment, and currently remains in stable condition under observation.
The teenager justified her actions to the police, citing her frustration with her parents’ disapproval of her relationship. The authorities seized the contaminated meals for forensic analysis to determine the composition of the poison. The case is under investigation by the Civil Police, and the girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently in police custody.
In a separate incident, a woman in Australia was convicted for the fatal poisoning of three family members with a meal containing death cap mushrooms. The convicted woman received multiple life sentences and additional years in prison for the murders, making it one of the most notorious poisoning cases in recent history.
