Keir Starmer has criticized Vladimir Putin for undermining peace efforts following an attack on a British Council building in Kyiv. Distressing footage captured the strike on the educational and cultural institution on Zhylyanska Street, resulting in casualties, including children.
Russian sources applauded the attack on the British Council and claimed that a dozen individuals were present in the building during the incident. Prime Minister condemned the “senseless” assault on Kyiv, accusing Putin of targeting civilians and children. French President Emmanuel Macron denounced the act as “terror and barbarism.”
Expressing solidarity, Mr. Starmer stated, “My thoughts are with all those impacted by the reckless Russian strikes on Kyiv, which have caused damage to the British Council building. Putin’s actions are resulting in harm to innocent civilians and jeopardizing peace efforts. This violence must cease.”
The bombardment also caused harm to the European Union delegation building. EU President Ursula von der Leyen urged Russia to halt indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure and engage in negotiations for a just and lasting peace.
Despite a recent summit between Putin and Donald Trump, the Russian aggression against Ukraine persists. US President Trump is advocating for direct talks between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to seek a resolution. European leaders, including Mr. Starmer and Mr. Macron, met with President Trump at the White House to discuss peace efforts.
The relentless Russian attacks on central Kyiv mark a significant escalation in the conflict, with residents now grappling with the aftermath of the destruction. Ukrainian President Zelensky is calling for stronger US sanctions to pressure Russia into ending the war, emphasizing the urgent need for diplomatic solutions.
As tensions escalate, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, with concerns growing over the escalating violence and the impact on innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
