In a chilling murder investigation in the UK, authorities discovered a severed “human penis” in a trash bin, shedding light on the fate of a victim whose body was later recovered in a landfill. The shocking incident unfolded in Essex in 2024 when a bar employee allegedly subjected his romantic rival, 45-year-old Cumali Turhan, to torture and fatal stabbing before fleeing to Turkey.
On November 19 of that year, Cumali was seen at a Chelmsford pub with Ceyhan Dinler, who is currently missing, before they headed to Barista bar. According to prosecutors, it was at this bar where Dinler allegedly fatally stabbed Cumali in the neck.
During the trial of Ciprian Ilie, jurors learned that Cumali’s tongue tip was sliced off and discarded in a bin during the vicious attack. Ilie was sentenced to seven years in prison in October for aiding an offender and obstructing the proper burial of Cumali.
The investigation into this gruesome crime is detailed in the Channel 4 documentary “Catching a Killer: Buried Truths.” Upon entering the Duke Street bar during the initial stages of the inquiry, police immediately discovered traces of blood.
Clad in white forensic gear and masks, officers meticulously combed through the suspected crime scene, identifying blood splatters on various surfaces such as a television, a pepper pot, the ceiling, and the floor, indicating a violent incident had occurred.
Despite the compelling evidence of foul play, Cumali’s body remained elusive. However, a breakthrough came later during the investigation when a human penis was found at the bottom of a bin behind the bar.
Subsequent examination of the bin contents revealed blood-soaked items including a juice carton, an alcohol bottle, paper towels, and a broken broom. An officer delicately extracted the severed penis for further analysis, noting the presence of blood vessels for potential forensic testing.
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe, leading the search effort, expressed astonishment at the unexpected discovery, remarking, “Certainly not what I was expecting on a Saturday afternoon.” The unsettling findings didn’t end there, with another officer unearthing what appeared to be a testicle in the bin.
Further details emerged, revealing that Cumali’s tongue had been forcibly severed while he was alive. A detective remarked on the extreme brutality of the act, emphasizing the deliberate infliction of excruciating pain on the victim.
After 45 days, Cumali’s body was located at the Enovert landfill facility in Stanway, approximately 20 miles from the crime scene. This case is notable for being the first instance in the UK where a police search of a landfill resulted in the recovery of a body.
Dinler, the suspect last seen at London Stansted Airport in November, remains at large and is believed to be in Turkey. Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
