Vernon Kay, aged 51 and a host on BBC Radio 2, playfully joked about risking his job after engaging in light-hearted banter with his co-host Michelle Visage, 56, during the Radio 2 in the Park event. Michelle, a former member of the group Seduction and a renowned judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, was commenting on the hot weather at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park where the live broadcast took place.
During the event, Vernon teased Michelle by suggesting she should mail herself a note with his flattering comment about her being attractive. In a humorous exchange, Vernon humorously remarked, “Put it in an envelope and send it back home. When you go home, you can open that envelope. And you know what it’ll say? You’re hot.”
Acknowledging the playful nature of their interaction, Vernon jokingly pretended to have been fired, eliciting laughter from Michelle, who is also friends with Vernon’s wife, Tess Daly, a presenter on Strictly Come Dancing.
Meanwhile, comedian Josh Widdecombe, another guest on the show, discussed his foray into new ventures, including his performance at the event where he took on a role in a rendition of Blur’s Parklife. Additionally, Fearne Cotton was seen trying to get security guards to join her in a dance routine at the festival, albeit with limited success.
Vernon, in good spirits at the BBC event, expressed relief after a period of anxiety at home. The presenter had previously shared his emotional reaction to his daughter Amber’s GCSE results, admitting to feeling overwhelmed and shedding tears of joy over her achievement. Reflecting on the importance of GCSE results, Vernon emphasized their significance in a student’s academic journey and shared his personal struggles with academic exams, citing his preference for practical skills over traditional studying methods.
