Ofcom has launched a new service called Map Your Mobile, allowing smartphone users to check the signal strength of different UK networks in their area by simply entering their postcode. By not using the most suitable mobile network for their location, millions of consumers could be missing out on better data and call performance, according to Ofcom.
Map Your Mobile is now the most comprehensive tool for comparing mobile coverage and performance throughout Britain. By inputting a postcode, users can view a map that displays the best-performing network in that area. The tool utilizes crowdsourced data from Opensignal, reflecting real user experiences, along with predictive data from UK mobile operators.
Natalie Black, Ofcom’s Group Director for Networks and Communications, emphasized the importance of choosing the right mobile network based on individual needs. The service encourages users to not only check their home location but also their work address and commute route to ensure optimal network performance.
With the increasing demand for reliable mobile services for activities like gaming, video streaming, and remote work, the new tool provides more accurate results tailored to modern user requirements. Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant highlighted the significance of fast and reliable mobile coverage in driving economic growth, praising the tool for offering consumers precise information at the postcode level to empower them in selecting the most suitable network for their daily connectivity needs.
