Former Conservative Party frontbencher and participant in the reality show “I’m A Celebrity,” Nadine Dorries, has switched allegiance to Reform UK.
Dorries, who had been vocal for over two years in defending Boris Johnson against alleged internal Conservative Party schemes, criticized her former party as “defunct.” Taking a direct swipe at Kemi Badenoch, she asserted that the Conservative Party is incapable of winning the next election, labeling their leaders as ineffective replacements.
Having resigned as Culture Secretary and MP in 2023, Dorries attributed her lack of peerage to “sinister forces.” This move drew criticism from fellow Conservatives, with Tobias Ellwood accusing her of self-serving behavior and Sir Robert Neill deeming her actions embarrassing.
Despite her defection, Dorries has not ruled out a return to the House of Commons. Speaking to the Daily Mail, she emphasized the need for Conservative Party members to contemplate the future, asserting that the party is no longer viable.
Throughout her tenure in Parliament, Dorries faced scrutiny for her involvement in obstructing the Privileges Committee’s investigation into Boris Johnson. Additionally, in 2012, she had her party membership suspended after appearing on the reality show “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here” without consulting party officials.
Reacting to Dorries’ move, a Liberal Democrat source expressed sympathy for Badenoch and Farage, while a Labour spokesperson criticized Dorries for her role in the Conservative Party’s alleged downfall and her subsequent alignment with Reform UK.
Known for her criticism of Rishi Sunak in her final days as an MP, Dorries authored a book titled “The Plot,” alleging mistreatment of Boris Johnson. Despite mixed reviews, Nigel Farage welcomed her to Reform UK, highlighting her political experience and predicting a positive impact on the party’s prospects in future elections.
