A suspect is in police custody following a tragic mass shooting in Mississippi that left six individuals, including a child, dead, law enforcement authorities disclosed.
Charged with murder is a 24-year-old man after a series of shootings in the northeastern region of the state. The county sheriff mentioned that Daricka M. Moore is facing a first-degree murder charge, which could potentially be elevated to capital murder.
The assailant launched attacks at three different sites in West Point, a city situated in Clay County, Mississippi, on Friday. Local officials have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the appalling incidents.
Sheriff Eddie Scott of Clay County conveyed through a Facebook post the loss of “multiple innocent lives” due to violence in West Point, neighboring the Alabama border. The sheriff confirmed to WTVA that six people lost their lives across three locations.
He further stated that the victims were all relatives of the suspect, expressing bewilderment at the motive behind killing a 7-year-old during a press briefing on Saturday.
The shootings occurred in the rural community of Cedarbluff, located to the west of West Point, as reported by the Associated Press.
The sheriff reassured the public via Facebook that a suspect was in custody, emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
