A dining establishment has publicly shared surveillance footage of two families it alleges left without settling their £190 tab, claiming they had no means to pay. Raman Kaur and Narinder Singh Athwa, proprietors of Sai Surbhi, an Indian eatery in Greater Manchester, recounted how the families indulged in a variety of dishes before departing on August 30.
According to the owners, two individuals within the group attempted multiple card transactions and sought assistance from others to transfer funds but ultimately asserted their inability to settle the bill. Despite assurances of repayment the following day, the group has not fulfilled their commitment, causing significant financial repercussions for the restaurant.
In an effort to alert the public and prevent similar incidents, the restaurant owners have disclosed the CCTV footage of the accused group. They emphasized the necessity of sharing the images to caution other businesses about such occurrences.
Expressing gratitude for the community’s support, the restaurant owners acknowledged the outpouring of encouragement and solidarity from patrons in Urmston and beyond. Raman previously disclosed to Manchester Evening News that the families had initially reserved a table for four but unexpectedly arrived with eight individuals, citing miscommunication during the booking process.
Reflecting on the incident’s implications, Raman highlighted the challenges faced by businesses in such circumstances, acknowledging the unfortunate recurrence of such incidents. Despite the setback, the owners remain appreciative of the community’s backing and understanding during this challenging time.
