“Keir Starmer Urges Caution Amid US Military Strikes in Venezuela”

Keir Starmer emphasizes the significance of upholding international law following the recent US military strikes in Venezuela. The strikes, announced by US President Donald Trump, resulted in explosions in Venezuela’s capital, affecting areas like Fort Tiuna and southern Caracas. Amidst the escalating situation, Mr. Starmer refrained from condemning the strikes but highlighted the need for more information before making any judgments.

Regarding British nationals in Venezuela, the Prime Minister assured that the UK was not involved in the operation and was focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens in the country. Reports from residents described multiple explosions and low-flying aircraft over Caracas, heightening tensions in the region.

President Trump later confirmed the strikes, claiming the capture of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife. This incident follows longstanding tensions between the US and Venezuela, with accusations of drug trafficking and terrorism offenses against President Maduro.

Political leaders, including Ed Davey and Zack Polanski, called for condemnation of the US military actions, citing concerns about international law violations and potential consequences for global security. The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office issued a travel advisory against all travel to Venezuela, urging British nationals in the country to stay informed and prepared for any emergencies.
