Jill Halfpenny: From Soap Star to Thriller Queen

Jill Halfpenny, who rose to fame at the young age of 14 on Byker Grove alongside Ant and Dec, has had a diverse acting career. She has portrayed seductive characters in popular soap operas like Corrie and EastEnders, won Strictly Come Dancing, and established herself in gritty TV dramas. Currently, she is starring in the thriller “Girl Taken” on Paramount TV+ and is set to reprise her role as DS Sam Bradley in the ITV mystery drama “After The Flood” for its second season starting on Sunday. Additionally, she will be seen alongside Sally Lindsay in the upcoming thriller “Number One Fan” on Channel 5.

In her role as DS Sam Bradley, Jill, now 50, describes her character as affable and approachable on the surface but with hidden depths. The new series follows detective Jo Marshall as she navigates personal challenges while uncovering corruption within the police force, with the help of DS Bradley.

Jill reflects on her career evolution, acknowledging past typecasting and expressing gratitude for the shift towards more complex and meatier roles for women in recent years. Despite professional success, she has faced personal tragedies, losing her partner and father to heart attacks. In her memoir “A Life Reimagined,” she candidly shares her experiences of grief, aiming to break the silence surrounding loss and mourning.

Currently residing in her native North East with her son, Jill is dating Ian McAllister and embracing life with acceptance and optimism. She emphasizes the importance of facing grief head-on and finding comfort in moving forward. Amidst life’s ups and downs, she finds solace in acceptance and the possibilities that lie ahead.

“After the Flood” returns on Sunday, 18th January, airing weekly on ITV. All episodes will be available on ITVX for viewers to enjoy.
