Erfan Soltani’s family is urgently seeking help from Donald Trump to save the Iranian shopkeeper, who is facing execution for his involvement in anti-government protests. Erfan was given a brief 10-minute farewell with his relatives before being sentenced to death by the Iranian regime amid the ongoing crackdown on demonstrations triggered by economic issues. He is set to be hanged today, adding to the rising death toll from the widespread unrest challenging Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s long-standing rule.
Appealing to Trump for assistance, Erfan’s relatives emphasized the critical need for immediate action to prevent his execution. Somayeh, a cousin of Soltani, pleaded for intervention, highlighting Trump’s commitment to strong measures against Iran’s crackdown on dissenters. She expressed shock and disbelief upon learning about Erfan’s impending death, describing the situation as surreal.
Notably, Trump has urged Iranian protesters to persist in their demonstrations through his Truth Social platform, warning authorities of consequences for their actions. The President vowed support for the protestors while urging them to seize control of government institutions. He also denounced the reported high death toll, challenging Iranian officials’ claims of only 600 fatalities as independent reports suggest a much larger number nearing 2,000 casualties.
Iranian judicial authorities have expedited legal proceedings against protesters, labeling them as “rioters” and “terrorists.” Erfan’s scheduled execution on January 14 signifies a swift response to dissent, contrasting the regime’s usual lengthy process for death penalty cases. Despite denying any violent behavior during protests, Somayeh accused the regime of fabricating charges to justify the execution of young activists.
