British soap opera actor Trevor A Toussaint has passed away at the age of 65, as confirmed by his agent. Toussaint was best known for his role as Walter Deveraux in 147 episodes of the long-running series from 2018 to 2022.
In a statement released by Toussaint’s management team, his family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and well wishes during this difficult time as they come to terms with the loss of a beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Kellé Bryan, who managed Toussaint and portrayed his on-screen daughter Martine Deveraux in Hollyoaks, paid a heartfelt tribute on her official Instagram account, sharing memorable moments from their time together on the Channel 4 show.
Reflecting on Toussaint’s groundbreaking career, Bryan highlighted his defiance against stereotypes in the acting industry, particularly during the 1970s when black actors were often typecast. Toussaint’s refusal to conform to expectations and his commitment to authenticity paved the way for a more inclusive entertainment landscape.
Messages of condolence poured in from co-stars and colleagues, with Jessica Fox, Richard Blackwood, Nikki Sanderson, and Ricky Norwood all expressing their sorrow at the passing of the esteemed actor. Toussaint’s legacy extends beyond Hollyoaks, with notable roles in other popular TV shows like Death in Paradise, Dreaming Whilst Black, and Sulphur and White.
The entertainment industry mourns the loss of a talented actor and trailblazer who leaves behind a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working with him.
