Three major high street banks, part of Lloyds Banking Group, have announced plans to shut down a total of 71 branches in the coming year due to the increasing trend of online banking. The closures consist of 40 Lloyds branches, 14 Halifax locations, and 17 Bank of Scotland sites. Customers affected by these closures have alternatives such as using branches across any of the three banks for their daily banking needs. Additionally, they can explore the option of banking hubs that are established in shared public spaces on the high street.
A spokesperson from Lloyds Banking Group highlighted the shift in customer behavior towards digital banking, with more than 21 million customers opting for apps to manage their finances. The group aims to offer a diverse range of banking options, combining digital convenience with personalized customer service. In addition to the mobile app, customers can conduct their banking transactions at any Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branch, utilize the Post Office services, or visit banking hubs. Cash deposits can also be made at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
