Police in Mexico were shocked to find the dismembered bodies of three men in six plastic bags at a commercial complex in the Acapulco Diamante region of Guerrero state. The discovery was made following reports from the Playa Dinamita area, where concerned individuals had alerted authorities about the suspicious bags. Upon arriving at the scene, investigators confirmed that the bags contained the heads and limbs of the victims, making it the latest incident of such gruesome discoveries in Guerrero.
The bodies were transported to a morgue in El Quemado for further examination, but authorities have not yet been able to identify the victims. This recent find is not an isolated case, as federal investigators had previously been involved in a similar incident in Acapulco in April 2025. During that time, plastic bags containing the remains of a single victim, including missing limbs and head, were discovered.
According to reports, various law enforcement agencies, including the National Guard, State Police, Navy, and State Attorney General’s forensic specialists, were involved in collecting evidence from the scene. A threatening note, believed to be from a criminal group, was found near the body, although the group’s identity remained unknown at the time. In a separate incident, the bodies of 11 individuals were found in the Tecoanapa municipality as a result of clashes between rival gangs.
Past decapitations in Guerrero have been linked to the “La Barredora” gang, which operates in the region. One particular incident involved the discovery of six severed heads, with a note signed by the group left at the crime scene. The motive behind these brutal killings remains unclear, but local reports mentioned a threatening note left alongside a blanket at the scene.
While the note was signed by La Barredora, translating to “the sweeper,” it was not definitively established whether the gang was directly responsible for the murders. Guerrero has a high rate of homicides in Mexico, with a significant portion attributed to drug-related violence. Due to safety concerns, travel advisories recommend limiting travel to the state to essential purposes.
The escalation of violence in Guerrero in recent years prompted Catholic bishops to intervene in 2024 to mediate a truce between rival cartels.
