A young girl urgently contacted her mother to be picked up from a friend’s residence after being drugged by the friend’s father during a sleepover. Michael Meyden spiked mango smoothies with Temazepam, a prescription sedative, for his 12-year-old daughter and her companions, insisting they consume the concoction. The girl who did not drink the spiked smoothie repeatedly reached out to her parents and family friends for help.
Desperate messages, such as “Mom please pick me up and say had family emergency,” and “Please. Please pick up. Please. PLEASE!” were sent in distress to her mother. After being rescued by a family friend and taken home, the girl’s parents retrieved the other two friends and sought medical attention for them.
The two other girls tested positive for benzodiazepine, with one experiencing symptoms of drowsiness and clumsiness after consuming the smoothie. One of the victims recounted seeing Meyden disturbingly adjust a sleeping child’s position in his home in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Meyden was later sentenced for causing the girls to ingest a controlled substance.
During the court hearing, one victim expressed the profound impact of the incident on her life, condemning Meyden as a “monster.” Another victim labeled him a “rotten old man.” Meyden and his ex-wife settled a civil lawsuit filed by one victim’s father, although the settlement amount remains undisclosed. The lawsuit, filed in November 2024, sought $2.4 million for emotional distress, negligence, and battery claims. Meyden was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to felony charges related to the drugging incident.
