A tragic incident unfolded at a wedding reception in Pakistan as a gas cylinder explosion resulted in the loss of eight lives, including the newlywed couple. The reception was being held at a residence in Islamabad, the capital city, triggering a partial building collapse and leaving seven others injured. The explosion took place in a residential neighborhood, prompting authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the cause.
Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf confirmed the completion of the rescue operation, ensuring no individuals were trapped under the debris. Search efforts, aided by sniffer dogs, were successful in recovering all victims. Yousaf noted that three houses were completely destroyed, one was partially damaged, and adjacent structures were being inspected to mitigate further risks.
Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended condolences to the families of the victims and instructed health authorities to provide top-tier medical care to the injured. He also called for a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
Liquefied petroleum gas cylinders are commonly used in Pakistani households due to insufficient natural gas pressure, leading to incidents like this caused by gas leaks. Ongoing police investigations are aimed at determining the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion.
