An elderly man was apprehended following an attempt to board a flight with his deceased wife in a wheelchair at Tenerife South Airport in the Spanish Canary Islands. The security staff intervened when they noticed the woman was unresponsive and had an unusually low body temperature, triggering immediate emergency procedures.
The incident was documented by Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, although specific details such as the couple’s nationalities, the airline involved, or the exact date remain undisclosed. According to the newspaper, the man was seen pushing the wheelchair with his wife, initially appearing like a typical elderly couple preparing to travel. However, suspicions arose upon closer inspection after passing through the security checkpoint.
An eyewitness at the airport recounted that upon closer examination, it was evident that the woman had an abnormally low temperature and was not breathing. Prompt action was taken as the emergency protocol was activated, leading to the arrival of security agents, Civil Guard members, and forensic personnel at the scene.
Initially, the husband claimed his wife had passed away within the airport premises a few hours earlier. However, multiple employees contradicted his account, alleging that he tried to attribute her death to the airport itself, prompting an ongoing investigation into his claims.
Following his arrest at the airport, the man reportedly cooperated with authorities, who are currently conducting inquiries to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the woman’s demise. This incident occurred shortly after the recent tragic event where an elderly woman passed away on an EasyJet flight from Malaga to London. Although some passengers asserted that she was already deceased upon boarding, EasyJet maintained that she had been cleared for travel before embarkation.
