“Dina Asher-Smith Triumphs in National 200m Race, Announces Permanent Return to London”

Dina Asher-Smith narrowly beat Amy Hunt in a close 200m national title race before announcing her permanent move back to London. The fastest woman in Britain set a new championship record of 22.14 seconds in windy Birmingham, attributing her recent success to the comfort of being back home after training in Texas with coach Edrick Floreal for 18 months.

Asher-Smith prefers to keep her current support system private until after the upcoming World Championships to maintain focus on her preparation. She hinted at being back in an environment that allows her to freely express herself and engage in productive discussions, emphasizing the importance of a nurturing setting for her performance.

Expressing gratitude for her long-standing support network in London, Asher-Smith confirmed her intention to compete in both the 100m and 200m events at the upcoming Olympics, confidently stating that she feels ready to contend for a medal.

While Amy Hunt missed out on a sprint double, Zharnel Hughes set a new championship record of 19.9 seconds in the men’s 200m following his earlier gold win. Josh Kerr dominated the 5000m race, accelerating in the final kilometer after a slow start. Georgia Hunter Bell secured the 800m title, solidifying her decision to compete in both the 800m and 1500m races in Tokyo.

Hunter Bell will finalize her race plan after the Lausanne Diamond League event, where she will face off against Keely Hodgkinson, her training partner and the Olympic 800m champion. Hunter Bell acknowledged Hodgkinson’s skill and expressed anticipation for their upcoming competition, recognizing the impact of training alongside such a talented athlete.
