Construction crane collapse on Thai train kills 29

A tragic incident occurred in north-eastern Thailand when a construction crane fell onto a passenger train in motion, resulting in a fiery derailment that claimed the lives of at least 29 individuals. Moreover, 64 people sustained injuries, prompting ongoing rescue efforts and medical assistance. The derailment transpired within a high-speed rail project aimed at linking China with various parts of south-east Asia. The crane, deployed for constructing an elevated railway section, toppled as the train journeyed from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province. Images displayed smoke billowing above the scene, with construction equipment dangling between concrete pillars. Rescuers navigated overturned train carriages, some severely damaged, with visible structural breaches. The transport minister disclosed that 195 passengers were onboard, initiating an investigative probe into the incident. The calamity has spurred Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to demand accountability, citing negligence as a plausible contributing factor. The tragic event underscores the necessity for a meticulous inquiry to ascertain potential construction errors or procedural deviations. As the situation unfolds, authorities confirmed the death toll rising to 29, with ongoing efforts to address the aftermath and seek justice for the victims.
