Michael McIntyre has been a beloved comedian in Britain since his rise to fame in 2006. Initially known for his stand-up performances, the 49-year-old has expanded his career into hosting popular shows like The Wheel and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. Fans have observed his weight loss journey over the years, which has not been without its challenges.
In 2017, Michael visited the Mayr Clinic in Austria, where he underwent a weight loss program costing £3,000 per week. Accompanied by fellow comedian Paul Tonkinson, Michael experienced significant weight loss of 14lb during his brief stay but found the process to be extremely difficult and uncomfortable.
Reflecting on his time at the clinic, Michael shared how the intense regimen included tests, dietary restrictions like avoiding apples, and a gut cleansing treatment that led to unpleasant side effects. Despite the physical changes, he admitted feeling emotional, depressed, and confused during the process.
This wasn’t Michael’s first attempt at losing weight. In 2014, he decided to make lifestyle changes after his son’s computer categorized him as “overweight.” The comedian humorously recounted a moment on The Graham Norton Show where a guessing game app indirectly prompted him to address his weight, sparking his commitment to shedding the pounds.
Michael, who has two adult sons with his wife Kitty, humorously recalled the app’s questions about a British comedian with dark hair who was slightly overweight, leading him to take action towards a healthier lifestyle.
