In a few days, I will present my second Budget as the Chancellor. My focus will be on addressing the needs of working families by reducing NHS waiting times, cutting national debt, and lowering the cost of living. These objectives align with both the nation’s priorities and my own as Chancellor.
Reducing NHS waiting lists is crucial as we committed to revitalizing the NHS, undoing the austerity measures of the past, and ensuring patients receive timely care. Addressing national debt is a priority to redirect funds towards essential services like education, healthcare, law enforcement, and local communities.
Lowering the cost of living is paramount, as it remains a significant burden on households. High prices disproportionately affect ordinary families. In the upcoming Budget, I will introduce measures to alleviate this pressure, building on existing initiatives by the Labour government.
Actions such as extending the freeze on prescription charges, maintaining frozen rail fares, implementing breakfast clubs in schools, and combating ticket scalping demonstrate our commitment to easing everyday expenses. The Budget will expand on these efforts to further assist individuals and families.
Our ability to mitigate the cost of living challenges stems from the economic stability we have restored by managing expenditures efficiently. By combatting waste and fraud, we ensure resources are directed where they are most needed, whether in asylum support, eliminating police and crime commissioners, or preventing welfare fraud.
This Budget is designed to benefit you and your family, aiming to create a fairer, stronger, and more secure Britain.
