A young British adventurer recently stumbled upon an abandoned MOD barracks in London, describing the experience as eerie, with dark rooms and creaking corridors. Chloe Urbex, known for her exploration of spooky locations like deserted hospitals and derelict sites, found this neglected barracks that has been left untouched for five decades.
According to Chloe, the reason for its abandonment was its outdated design, leading to the construction of a new barracks nearby, leaving this one to decay. Barracks are typically swiftly constructed living quarters for military personnel, offering temporary housing for various purposes.
Chloe documented her find on Instagram, showcasing the decaying state of the building through photos revealing deteriorating ceilings, broken windows, neglected stairs, and abandoned spaces. Among the remnants were keys, electrical panels, old signs, and toilets, painting a haunting picture of neglect.
Her post titled “Abandoned MOD Barracks in the South East of England” garnered significant attention, with followers expressing dismay at the state of the neglected buildings and calling for their repurposing. This discovery follows another urban explorer’s eerie find in an abandoned Kent pub, left deserted for nearly two decades.
Sean Piper, who explored The Harrow pub in Kent, shared his experience of the decaying establishment, noting the worsening decay with each visit. He described the musty smell and severe dampness, highlighting the eerie ambiance of the deserted pub frozen in time.
One peculiar observation was the appearance that patrons had abruptly left, with menus still on display and even an unfinished pint left behind. The bar remained stocked with bottles of alcohol, weathered by years of abandonment, giving the impression that the pub was abruptly vacated.
Both explorers’ discoveries shed light on forgotten spaces frozen in time, prompting discussions on the fate of these abandoned establishments and the potential for their revival.
