A British citizen living abroad was tragically killed following a heated argument with another individual in the early morning hours, according to law enforcement authorities. The victim, identified as Luke Kellett-Smith, aged 34, was involved in a verbal dispute with a man named Benard Emeka Oneh on December 28. The altercation took place around 1:20 am outside a venue in Toronto, where Luke, who had relocated to the Canadian city in 2019, was struck twice, leading to his unfortunate demise on New Year’s Eve after losing consciousness from the second blow.
The suspect, Emeka Oneh, aged 30 and a resident of Richmond Hill, was promptly apprehended on December 28 and initially charged with aggravated assault. Subsequently, the charge was elevated to manslaughter by the Toronto Police Service on Monday. The incident occurred at the intersection of Front Street West and University Avenue, with the assailant allegedly fleeing the scene but being swiftly apprehended on the same day.
Emeka Oneh was slated to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Monday for further legal proceedings. The nature of the relationship between the two individuals or the events leading up to the fatal altercation remains undisclosed at present.

Described as a “gentle giant” with an exuberant personality, Luke was remembered for his zest for life and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. A fundraising campaign has been initiated to bring Luke back to his hometown of Woking in the UK, with donations exceeding £27,000.
