A popular streaming app that provided free access to a variety of content has officially shut down, affecting users of Fire TV Sticks and other streaming devices. Amazon’s Freevee platform, known for its ad-supported content and lack of subscription fees, has transitioned its extensive content library to Prime Video as of September 1.
Freevee users are now required to switch to the Prime Video app and sign in with their Amazon account to continue watching their favorite shows and movies. While there are no additional charges, some boxsets and movies may now require a Prime subscription or one-time payment, potentially enticing users to subscribe to Prime Video.
This move aims to streamline access to Amazon’s content by consolidating it within the Prime Video app. Existing Prime Video account holders will find it more convenient to browse all available content in one place. The Freevee app will remain accessible until August 2025, allowing users time to transition to Prime Video seamlessly.
