President Donald Trump has suggested that the upcoming congressional election in November should not even take place, citing the historical trend of the incumbent party losing seats in Congress during midterm elections. Trump expressed frustration at this pattern, stating that winning the presidency does not translate to success in the midterms.
During an interview with Reuters, Trump claimed that his administration had achieved so much that there should be no need for an election. He further criticized having to run against Democrats, suggesting that the election should be canceled, although he acknowledged the potential backlash from labeling him a dictator.
In a separate instance, Trump speculated on the possibility of extending his term beyond the prescribed limit by raising the scenario of being in a wartime situation. These comments were made during a discussion with Ukraine’s leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, regarding the challenges of holding elections during times of conflict.
Moreover, Trump inaccurately boasted about winning Minnesota in all three elections he has participated in, despite having lost the state in each election. He also expressed uncertainty about his eligibility to run in the 2028 election, hinting at a potential constitutional amendment to allow for his candidacy.
Throughout his various statements, Trump has raised eyebrows with his remarks about the electoral process and his future political aspirations.
