After almost a decade on the run, a man accused of murdering a young woman has been apprehended by authorities. Alejandro Rosales Castillo, who had been a fugitive on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list since 2017, was arrested in Mexico on suspicion of first-degree murder for the death of his former co-worker, Truc Quan ‘Sandy’ Ly Le.
Castillo, 27, is currently in custody in a Mexico City prison awaiting extradition to face charges in North Carolina. The arrest follows allegations that Castillo owed Le $1,000 and lured her to a gas station under the pretense of repaying her before allegedly forcing her to withdraw money from an ATM, then shooting her in a wooded area.
Le’s disappearance and the subsequent discovery of her body in a ravine raised suspicions about Castillo’s involvement. Surveillance footage captured Castillo crossing the border into Mexico just days before the grim discovery. The FBI hailed Castillo’s capture as a significant breakthrough, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies across borders.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the successful operation, highlighting the administration’s support for law enforcement. The FBI Charlotte team, along with local and federal partners, played a crucial role in apprehending Castillo, bringing a sense of closure to Le’s grieving family. The arrest also sheds light on the long-standing investigation into Le’s murder, with two other suspects previously charged in connection with the case.
North Carolina Representative Pat Harrigan commended the law enforcement agencies for their persistence in seeking justice for the victim and her family. Castillo’s arrest marks a significant milestone in a case that had remained unsolved for years, offering a glimpse of hope for those affected by the tragic events surrounding Le’s death.
