Twitter, now known as X under the ownership of Elon Musk, faced a disruption this afternoon, causing users to encounter error messages when attempting to access the platform. Various websites that track issues with popular online services indicated that individuals worldwide, including those in the UK, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Turkey, the United States, and Indonesia, were experiencing difficulties.
While some users managed to briefly log in, they soon found the service inaccessible again, while others reported accessing X but with slow performance. Reports now indicate that users are successfully logging back into the X social media platform.
This incident marks the second significant technical glitch for Twitter this week, following a previous outage on Tuesday. Earlier this week, users in the UK and the US reported the platform being down, with over 7,500 reports in the UK and more than 25,000 in the US as logged by the Downdetector website, particularly peaking around 2 pm.
Downdetector, based in the UK, observed a sharp increase in reports around 3 pm, reaching a peak of 14,897 before subsiding, although recent data suggests reports are once again on the rise. Cloudflare, a San Francisco-based American internet security company, offers cybersecurity services to safeguard websites from DDoS attacks, which involve hackers coordinating thousands of machines to overwhelm a server.
When the host website fails to communicate promptly with Cloudflare’s systems, it triggers a 522 error. Users encountering issues while trying to access X this afternoon are confronted with a specific error screen. The problem appears to be global, as downforeveryoneorjustme.com shows reports from various countries such as India, South Africa, Spain, Belgium, and Singapore.
The website downdetector.co.uk also notes a surge in reports around 3 pm today, with numerous users across the UK reporting difficulties, consistent with global trends.
