Argos is now offering a popular alternative to Sky Q with the Manhattan S4-R set-top box, which provides similar features like recording programs and pausing live TV without the need for monthly fees. This device, introduced recently, allows access to over 100 channels through Freesat, utilizing an existing satellite dish for free TV channels such as BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, and more.
The Manhattan S4-R, priced at £219.99, offers a user-friendly interface, built-in search functions, and access to a vast library of on-demand entertainment, supporting apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and Channel 4. While it may not match Sky Q in premium sports and movies, it stands out for its cost-effective approach as it doesn’t require ongoing payments.
Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted that the S4-R enhances recording capabilities by allowing up to four simultaneous recordings, appealing to households seeking an affordable TV solution. Another disruptive device in the market is the Pleio puck, providing over 50 live channels through internet streaming without the need for an aerial.
The Pleio puck, priced at £99.99, is back in stock and includes a gaming controller with access to 200 online games. Sky has also announced a 20% price reduction for its Sky Glass Air TV, with prices starting from £4.50 per month, offering an upgraded Gen 2 model with advanced features like a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar starting from £11 per month.
