LEGO is setting a unique course in the racing world by establishing its own motorsport team, LEGO Racing, in partnership with F1 Academy. The team, featuring Dutch racer Esmee Kosterman, will compete in an all-female series supported by Formula 1 and its teams, including Cadillac.
Julia Goldin, LEGO’s chief product and marketing officer, emphasized that the primary goal is to raise awareness and build excitement through this initiative rather than solely focusing on winning championships. The collaboration aims to support the overall success of the F1 Academy, a championship still in its early stages but gaining prominence.
LEGO’s involvement extends beyond sponsorship, as they are introducing buildable versions of their F1 Academy car to engage young girls and women in motorsport. The combination of miniature car sets and real racing experiences is intended to inspire a new generation of female motorsport enthusiasts.
The team’s car will bear the number 32, honoring LEGO’s founding year, although Kosterman, the team’s driver, had a personal preference for the number 65. Despite the emphasis on broader goals by LEGO, Kosterman is determined to achieve podium finishes with the LEGO racing car.
LEGO’s unique approach to motorsport sponsorship and engagement is seen as a significant endorsement for F1 Academy, leading to increased exposure and credibility. The collaboration aims to break stereotypes and encourage more girls to pursue careers in motorsport, providing inspiration and opportunities through innovative initiatives.
The stage is set for LEGO Racing to make its mark on the track, blending the thrill of real racing with the creativity of LEGO’s iconic building sets.
