“Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning for Heavy Rain in Southern England”

Britons residing in numerous areas have been advised by the Met Office to prepare for heavy rain and potential flooding. A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of southern England, including London, the southeast, and the southwest, with conditions expected to deteriorate on Thursday between 9 am and 10 pm.

The Met Office recommends residents in the affected regions to assess the risk of flooding to their properties and create a flood plan along with assembling an emergency flood kit. Additionally, they suggest being ready for potential power outages by gathering essential items such as torches and a mobile phone power pack.

The warning coincides with a deepening low-pressure system moving northeast across England and Wales, bringing persistent and heavy rainfall throughout the day before clearing gradually in the evening. Areas under the yellow weather warning include Devon, Dorset, Kent, Surrey, Somerset, Berkshire, and Hampshire, with expected rainfall between 20mm to 30mm and localized amounts of 40mm to 50mm.

The Met Office warns of possible surface water flooding due to heavy rain on saturated ground, potentially leading to disruptions in bus and train services and longer journey times on roads. Meanwhile, a yellow ice warning is in place for much of Scotland until 10 am today, with wintry showers in the north and snow expected at lower levels in the north later in the day.
