“Red Arrows Make History with First Female Leader”

The renowned aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, has announced a significant milestone as a woman assumes the top leadership position for the first time in its history.

Wing Cdr Sasha Nash has taken over as the Officer Commanding of the Red Arrows, succeeding Wing Cdr Adam Collins. She expressed immense pride and excitement in leading the team, highlighting how she never imagined reaching this position if someone had told her 20 years ago.

Nash, a skilled fast-jet pilot with experience flying the RAF’s Tornado GR4 in various missions worldwide, emphasized that leading the Red Arrows is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She aims to inspire aspiring aviators from diverse backgrounds through her role.

In her new role at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, Nash now commands a team of 150 RAF and civilian personnel. Reflecting on her passion for aviation, she traced back her childhood dream of joining the Royal Air Force and flying fast jets, inspired by air shows and aircraft speed.

Excited about the upcoming season and future plans for the Red Arrows, Nash looks forward to representing the UK and engaging with aviation enthusiasts at airshows and events. She acknowledged the contributions of her predecessor, Wg Cdr Collins, who led the team with dedication and earned respect within the display community.

Collins, who completed a successful three-year tenure leading the Red Arrows, expressed confidence in Nash’s leadership, predicting that the team will continue to uphold its standards of precision, excellence, and teamwork globally.

Addressing past criticisms of harassment within the team, Collins affirmed the importance of inclusivity, respect, and value for all team members. The transition to new leadership marks a positive step forward for the Red Arrows.
