The latest data from UK regulator Ofcom reveals varying performance among major broadband providers in the UK. TalkTalk, Vodafone, and EE ranked poorly, receiving more customer complaints than the national average. Ofcom noted an increase in complaints for TalkTalk and Vodafone, while EE’s complaint levels remained consistent.
In contrast, Plusnet emerged as the top-performing provider with the fewest complaints, despite being under the same ownership as EE. Ofcom highlighted Plusnet as the least complained-about broadband provider. Following closely, Sky secured the second position for the lowest number of issues reported.
Virgin Media showed significant improvement, moving up to the third spot from being one of the worst performers previously. The rankings revealed Plusnet with 4 complaints per 100,000 customers, followed by Sky with 6 complaints and Virgin Media with 7 complaints.
Additionally, Ofcom monitors complaints in other services such as landline and pay-TV. Utility Warehouse led in landline services with only 1 complaint per 100,000 customers, while Sky, Virgin Media, and Vodafone also demonstrated strong performance in this category. However, TalkTalk continued to struggle, receiving 8 complaints per 100,000 customers.
Despite its broadband performance, TalkTalk excelled in TV services with only 2 complaints per 100,000 customers, leading the category. Sky followed with 3 complaints, Virgin Media with 5, and EE with 6 complaints per 100,000 customers.
Overall, complaint levels across broadband, landline, mobile, and pay-TV services remained stable compared to the previous quarter, indicating a lack of improvement in the industry. Ernest Doku, a telecoms expert at uswitch.com, noted a concerning trend of stagnant complaint volumes amidst rising costs for consumers. Plusnet’s consistent performance was highlighted as a positive example, emphasizing the importance of customer service in the telecom industry.
As annual prices approach, customers are advised to evaluate their service providers to ensure they are receiving value for their money. Comparing deals and seeking better service options could be beneficial for consumers looking to optimize their telecom services.
