Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have spoken out following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris finished second behind Max Verstappen, with Piastri in fourth, but both McLaren drivers’ cars failed post-race technical checks due to excessive skid-block wear. This disqualification affects their standings in the championship race with only two rounds remaining.
Norris now leads Piastri and Verstappen by 24 points before the upcoming race in Qatar and the season finale in Abu Dhabi. Norris expressed disappointment, acknowledging issues with the car that led to the disqualification and the loss of valuable points. Looking ahead to Qatar, Norris aims to deliver a strong performance.
Piastri also expressed frustration over the disqualification, emphasizing the need to regroup and focus on maximizing points in the final two rounds. McLaren issued an apology to both drivers, citing unexpected car behavior during the race that resulted in the breach of technical regulations.
FIA scrutineers found that the skid thickness beneath the McLaren cars was below the required minimum of 9mm, indicating an illegally low ride height. This discovery led to their disqualification from the race classification.
