“Sky Shifts Focus: Aura EZ TV Recorder Challenges Sky Q”

Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, is renowned for its exceptional features such as live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its widespread popularity, Sky is shifting its focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, indicating a move away from its traditional satellite-powered platform. This transition may pave the way for a new competitor to enter the market soon.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles the key features of Sky Q. Similar to Sky’s flagship box, the Aura EZ includes a built-in 2TB hard drive for storing a vast amount of TV shows, movies, and sports content. The presence of internal storage in a time where physical recording options are diminishing makes this device a significant release.

Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, allowing users to stream live TV over broadband. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a wide range of on-demand programs. This setup enables easy relocation of the box between rooms, effortless installation, and regular feature enhancements.

Key features of the Humax Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.

While Freely may not offer the premium sports and movie content found on Sky, it is a subscription-free service, making it an attractive option for users.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026, with a suggested retail price of £249.

In a related development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. Priced at £24 per month, customers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. Sky’s Ultimate TV plan subscribers will also receive access to over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Furthermore, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel directly integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle includes:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (available from March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (starting March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
