“Spectator Illness Halts Davis Cup Final Drama”

In the Davis Cup final, the second singles match faced an unexpected interruption when a spectator fell ill in the stands. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was in the midst of a crucial moment against Jaume Munar when the match was paused for medical attention to the fan.

Munar had dominated the first set 6-1 and was leading in the second set when Cobolli seized an opportunity to break back. The game came to a halt as medical staff rushed to assist the spectator, prompting both players to take a break on their benches.

Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his swift response, noting the crowd’s quick reaction to the situation. As the fan was attended to by officials, the umpire Marijana Veljovic and Italian captain Filippo Volandri provided guidance to the players during the pause.

After the fan was safely removed, Parmar mentioned a potential delay in play as the person was assisted out of the stands. The delay lasted approximately ten minutes before the match resumed, with Cobolli managing to break Munar’s serve and even the second set.

Italy led 1-0 coming into the second singles match following Matteo Berrettini’s victory over Pablo Carreno Busta. A win for Cobolli could secure Italy’s third consecutive tournament victory, a feat not achieved since the USA’s five-title streak in 1972. Conversely, a victory for Munar would force a decisive doubles round in the final.

Both teams were missing key players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who withdrew before the final began.
