Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Olympic champion, has confirmed her participation in Kevin Sinfield’s fundraising effort for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Sheffield. Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, will run alongside Sinfield during the fourth stage of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge, which commenced on Monday. Sinfield’s goal is to complete an ultra marathon daily for a week, marking his sixth consecutive annual campaign in support of MND charities. To date, Sinfield has raised over £10 million, contributing to the establishment of a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
The initiative was inspired by Sinfield’s former teammate and close friend Rob Burrow’s MND diagnosis. Sinfield’s remarkable dedication has garnered global acclaim, with Ennis-Hill’s involvement adding significant visibility to the cause. Ennis-Hill, renowned for her Olympic heptathlon gold in 2012 and three world championship titles, transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement and serves as a patron for various charities including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield’s mission to combat MND persists, emphasized by recent news of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis. Moody plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026. Following the Sheffield leg, Sinfield will continue to Cumbria, Scotland, and conclude the challenge in Leeds on Sunday.
