A young darting talent, Mitchell Lawrie, has amazed Luke Littler with his exceptional skills at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie, who was born in 2010, made history by becoming the youngest player to triumph at Lakeside by defeating Tomoya Maruyama from Japan and Jason Brandon with a flawless performance.
Lawrie’s remarkable achievement included hitting five maximums and displaying impressive checkouts, culminating in a tournament-high average score of 97.21. Littler expressed his astonishment towards Lawrie on social media, labeling the young player as exceptional.
Following his victory over Brandon, Lawrie expressed his elation, stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself.” Despite facing a tough opponent in Brandon, Lawrie started strong, maintaining focus throughout the match. Lawrie’s rapid start, including a near-perfect leg and a brilliant 134 checkout, garnered support from the crowd, motivating him further.
Although Lawrie faced some pressure as Brandon rallied in the final set, Lawrie managed to regain control and secure a comfortable win. Reflecting on the match, Lawrie admitted to a brief lapse in concentration but quickly recovered to seal the victory.
When questioned about his nerves during crucial moments in the match, Lawrie dismissed any signs of anxiety, attributing a missed opportunity to external distractions. Looking ahead, the PDC World Darts Championship is set to commence on December 11, offering fans exclusive live coverage of every match through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
