Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that Toto Wolff, the team principal, has been in communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide support during a challenging season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to the team, dealing with a car that is not performing well and questionable race strategies.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent grand prix in Qatar, where he was eliminated in Q1 during qualifying and finished outside the points in 12th place despite making a comeback during the race. Currently, he is in sixth place in the drivers’ standings and may drop to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his frustration with his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton admitted that the year has been unexpectedly tough. The 40-year-old driver described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite giving his all both on and off the track.
Throughout the challenging season, Mercedes has been offering personal support to Hamilton. Bradley Lord, the chief communications officer at Mercedes, disclosed that discussions have been held to assist Hamilton during this rough patch, with Wolff even accompanying him to race locations.
In an interview with CHAMP1, Lord mentioned, “We empathize with him on a human level, understanding the dedication and effort Lewis puts into his work. We acknowledge that every driver goes through ups and downs, and we are here to provide encouragement and support for him.”
Looking ahead to the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton is focused on maintaining his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings. With 152 points for the season, he is closely trailed by Kimi Antonelli with 150 points.
As Hamilton prepares for the last race in the current Ferrari model, which has posed numerous challenges, Arthur Leclerc will be stepping in for the first free practice session in his place.
Despite the tough circumstances, team principal Fred Vasseur has urged his team to continue striving for success. Following the Qatar Grand Prix, Vasseur emphasized the importance of staying focused and learning from setbacks in order to improve.
Ferrari is determined to finish the season on a positive note before shifting their attention to the upcoming 2026 campaign.
