British Cyclist Rescued from Snake-Infested Jungle

A British visitor has been successfully rescued following a frightening night stranded in a jungle teeming with snakes. Gordon Dewar, aged 63, got lost while exploring a forest trail in the Phrao district of northern Thailand’s Chiang Mai province on January 10, during his return from a cycling excursion.

Running out of food and water, Gordon was forced to spend the night in the wilderness surrounded by dangerous wildlife like cobras, pit vipers, bears, elephants, and leopards. Fortunately, rescue teams located him the next day after receiving his distress call.

Expressing relief at being found, Gordon expressed gratitude to everyone involved in his safe return. The Chiang Mai Tourist Police mobilized local rescuers, motocross riders, volunteers, and drone operators upon receiving the call, eventually locating Gordon in a weakened state but responsive.

The head of the Phrao rescue team mentioned that Gordon had endured dehydration for roughly 12 hours before help arrived. Rescuers encountered challenges navigating the steep terrain to reach him, but they successfully extracted him, including his bicycle, from the forest.

After receiving medical attention for cuts, bruises, and muscle strain from cycling, Gordon was escorted out of the jungle on a motocross motorcycle. Following a meal, he expressed his appreciation to the rescue team before continuing his cycling journey in Chiang Mai.
