The majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents agree that if U.S. President Donald Trump’s health significantly worsens, he should step down, as per an exclusive poll. A Democracy Institute survey conducted after Labor Day weekend with 1,300 likely voters revealed that 72% believe the president should resign under such circumstances.
However, a quarter (25%) of respondents disagreed with this view, while 3% remained undecided. This development coincided with an incident where Trump was left speechless in response to death rumors.
Meanwhile, a new survey shedding light on public opinion about Nigel Farage has implications for Starmer. Although most participants agreed on the idea of Trump resigning if his health declines, there is a noticeable divide among political parties regarding concerns about the president’s mental and physical well-being, according to reports from the Express.
Concerns about Trump’s health heightened after troubling photos showing swollen ankles and a bruised hand surfaced, prompting the White House to address the situation. It was revealed that the president had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that typically poses minimal risks but can lead to complications, as reported by the Mirror US.
The White House maintains that Trump is in “excellent” health. Breaking it down by party affiliation, 58% of Republican voters expressed worries about Trump’s health, while 35% did not, and 8% were unsure.
In contrast, a significant 94% of Democratic voters and 76% of Independent voters voiced concerns. Despite these figures, a majority of Americans do not appear overly worried about Trump’s health, with 49% indicating no concern compared to 41% who are worried and 10% who are undecided.
The partisan split is evident, with a large percentage of Democrats (81%) expressing worry, whereas only 15% of Republicans are concerned. Independents fall in between, with 47% not worried, 35% worried, and 18% undecided about Trump’s health.
Furthermore, the divide deepens when it comes to suspicions of the White House concealing information about the president’s health. While 91% of Democrats fear a cover-up, only 4% of Republicans share this belief, with 38% of Independent voters expressing similar concerns.
Allegations regarding Trump’s health have surfaced in recent weeks, though the White House continues to maintain his good health. Democrats and some Independents remain concerned about Trump’s well-being, while a vast majority of Republicans dismiss these concerns.
A significant number of Democratic and Independent voters believe Trump is undergoing cognitive decline, whereas the vast majority of Republicans reject such claims. Overall, most respondents do not believe the president is experiencing mental deterioration.
As concerns about aging politicians grow following allegations of a cover-up involving former President Biden’s health decline, it is noteworthy that President Trump, at 79 years old, holds the record as the oldest person to assume the presidency, surpassing Biden, who was also 78 when he took office. Since November 2022, several elderly politicians have passed away while in office.
