The Co-operative Bank plans to reduce operating hours at 40 branches starting in the next year. Some branches will experience a cut of up to three hours per week from January 2026, with 18 branches closing for one day weekly.
For instance, the Brighton branch will adjust its weekday hours from 9am-5pm to 9.30am-2.30pm. The Caerphilly branch will change its hours from 9am-4pm to 10am-2pm and will be closed on Wednesdays.
The Co-operative Bank, serving 2.5 million customers, updated its website, attributing the changes to declining branch visits. The bank stated that more customers are opting for mobile, online, or telephone banking services.
Branch teams will continue to assist customers through alternative channels, ensuring support remains available. If a branch is closed on a weekday, the nearest branch will be open to serve customers.
