Sami Sheen recently revealed that she had no idea she played a crucial role in her father Charlie Sheen’s decision to embrace sobriety. This revelation coincided with the launch of his new documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, which premiered on Netflix this week.
In his documentary and memoir, The Book of Sheen, Charlie, aged 60, shared how a conversation with his eldest daughter prompted him to quit alcohol and drugs for good. He recounted an incident in 2017 when, after consuming three whiskey-laced coffees, he had to ask a friend to pick up Sami from an appointment.
According to Charlie, Sami’s silent reaction made him realize the impact of his behavior on her. This realization led him to make a firm commitment to sobriety. Reflecting on the moment, he recalled Sami’s unspoken questions and longing for their past bond.
Sami, now a 21-year-old OnlyFans model who no longer communicates with Charlie, expressed her surprise at being the catalyst for his sobriety in a TikTok video. She appeared emotional in the video, set to melancholic music, stating, “I didn’t know I was the reason he got sober.” She also praised the documentary as “Honestly a 10/10.”
This revelation followed Charlie’s admission of being unaware of the reasons behind Sami’s decision to cut off contact with him. Sami had previously mentioned that she ceased communication with her father after he failed to check on her following a medical procedure.
During a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Charlie expressed hope for reconciliation with Sami, acknowledging the importance of their shared history. He emphasized his belief in the possibility of repairing their relationship despite the challenges they faced.
Charlie also highlighted the strengthened bonds he shares with his other children since embracing sobriety. Apart from Sami, he is a parent to Lola, 20, with Denise Richards, 16-year-old twins Max and Bob with Brooke Mueller, and 40-year-old daughter Cassandra Estevez from a previous relationship.
Reflecting on his journey to sobriety, Charlie disclosed that he quit drugs in 2015, the same year he revealed his HIV diagnosis. Since giving up alcohol in 2017, he has maintained complete sobriety, celebrating eight years of sobriety this year.
