Microsoft has issued a critical warning to Windows 10 users as the end of support for the operating system is fast approaching. With the deadline set for 2025, the company has alerted users to take immediate action.
In an update on its website, Microsoft emphasized that Windows 10 will no longer receive monthly security updates after the October 2025 deadline. This means devices running Windows 10 will be vulnerable to security threats without essential protections.
To safeguard against cyber attacks and system vulnerabilities, users are advised to either upgrade to Windows 11 promptly or opt for Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates for continued protection over the next three years. Neglecting to take action puts PCs at risk of potential security breaches and performance issues, as Windows 10 will not receive new feature updates like its successor, Windows 11.
For those considering the upgrade to Windows 11, the process should be seamless on compatible devices, with free updates available. Alternatively, purchasing a new laptop with Windows 11 pre-installed is also an option, albeit at a potentially higher cost.
If sticking with Windows 10, enrolling in Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESUs) is recommended to ensure ongoing security coverage against known threats and bugs. The ESU plan, priced at $30 per year, will provide critical security updates for Windows 10.
Yusuf Mehdi, Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Windows, highlighted the importance of securing existing PCs through the ESU program, emphasizing the need for users to take proactive steps before the end of support in 2025.
While Windows 10 will continue to function after the deadline, its security cannot be guaranteed, making it imperative for users to take the necessary precautions to protect their systems.
