Tony Blair is being called upon to clarify the guidance he provided to Donald Trump regarding Gaza in a session with the former President and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law. Blair, who acted as a Middle East envoy post his tenure as Prime Minister in 2007, reportedly engaged in talks about post-war plans for Israel. Discussions also touched on the hostage situation and strategies to enhance food assistance provisions.
Trump has previously hinted at relocating Palestinians and transforming Gaza into a resort similar to Las Vegas, a concept likely proposed by Kushner. The Tony Blair Institute has emphasized that no talks involving Blair and Trump have suggested the forced displacement of Palestinians. Nonetheless, Blair is believed to have collaborated with Kushner on initiatives recently.
The meeting between Blair and Trump was not publicly disclosed on the President’s agenda. However, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff mentioned to Fox News that Trump would oversee a meeting to deliberate on a comprehensive strategy. Witkoff did not elaborate on the specifics but expressed optimism about resolving the conflict before the year concludes.
Lib Dem leader Ed Davey has urged Blair to testify before Parliament about the closed-door discussion. Davey stressed the importance of leveraging any insights Blair may have into Trump’s intentions to assist in ending the conflict, securing hostage release, and delivering critical aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
