Lloyds Bank has alerted its customers about the discontinuation of a key banking service by the end of the year. Starting December 31, 2025, customers will no longer be able to cash cheques at their local Post Office, as confirmed by the bank in response to a customer inquiry.
The change was brought to light when a customer reached out to Lloyds Bank due to the impending closure of their local branch in October. The customer sought guidance on cheque deposits, cash conversions, and accessing statements. This development follows Nationwide’s announcement of a £760 bonus for customers who fulfill a specific requirement.
To address customer concerns, Lloyds, serving around 28 million customers, clarified that cash deposits could be made at the Post Office using a debit card, while cheques could be cashed via the mobile app. Detailed instructions on cheque deposits via the app were provided, including taking a well-lit photograph against a dark background for optimal processing.
Customers were also informed that coin deposits at the Post Office were capped at £250 per transaction. For coin deposits less than £1, full bags are required, totaling the indicated amount on the bag. Partially filled bags of £1 and £2 coins are acceptable if the coins are separate.
In response to the impending changes, Lloyds Bank advised customers of alternate cheque deposit methods, such as through the mobile banking app or in-branch services. A postal cheque service is available as an additional option if needed.
Lloyds Bank, along with Halifax and Bank of Scotland under the Lloyds Banking Group, will discontinue cheque deposit services at the Post Office. The decision was based on the declining use of the Post Office for cheque deposits by customers.
In other financial news, Nationwide Building Society concluded its £50 bonus payments program, with members collecting bonuses either directly into their accounts or via posted cheques. For customers needing replacement cheques, Nationwide stated they could arrange for a replacement to be sent upon request within 10-15 days.
Members who received cheques are reminded to cash them before the deadline of January 1, 2026, to avoid any issues.
