“Equestrian Community Mourns Tragic Loss at Horse Trials”

The British equestrian community is grieving the loss of a rider who tragically passed away following a fall from her horse during the Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials in Northamptonshire. Sarah Yorke, aged 37, was participating in the event on Friday when the incident occurred.

Medical professionals responded promptly after Yorke’s fall at fence three, but unfortunately, she could not be saved, as confirmed by British Eventing. The rider’s horse, MGH HERA, was examined by on-site veterinarians, found to be unharmed, and safely returned to the stables.

In response to the tragic event, British Eventing officials decided to cancel the remainder of the competition scheduled for Saturday, including the dressage, cross-country, and show jumping phases. Yorke, a previous winner, was competing in the BE100 class for the first time with her seven-year-old horse.

Rosie Williams, the Chief Executive of British Eventing, extended condolences to Yorke’s family and friends, expressing solidarity from the entire eventing community during this challenging period. The sport’s governing body announced a comprehensive review would be conducted, with the BE Support Trust helpline available for assistance.

The British Eventing Support Trust, in collaboration with Sporting Chance, is providing support to individuals impacted by the tragedy. Those in need of help can contact 07780 008877 at any time to connect with a mental health professional for appropriate support.
