Topshop is making a comeback on the UK high street with a new collaboration with John Lewis, marking its return after closing its standalone stores in 2021. The renowned fashion brand will be available in all 32 department stores of John Lewis, along with an online presence on the retailer’s website. Additionally, Topman products will be stocked in seven of the John Lewis stores.
The launch will feature a curated collection of 130 of Topshop’s most sought-after items, emphasizing their iconic denim pieces. This initiative was announced last year following successful pop-up events at various John Lewis locations. It is part of John Lewis’ substantial £800 million investment in introducing new brands for the upcoming spring/summer season.
Topshop and its sibling brand Topman exited the UK high street when their previous owner, Arcadia, faced financial challenges in 2021. ASOS acquired the brands, selling Topshop products online. Last year, Topshop made a notable return to London’s Oxford Street with a launch at Liberty department store.
Michelle Wilson, Topshop’s managing director, expressed excitement about the partnership with John Lewis, stating that it simplifies access for customers to their favorite Topshop and Topman items. She highlighted the convenience of experiencing, feeling, and purchasing clothing on the same day, meeting customer expectations for service.
The reintroduction of Topshop aligns with London Fashion Week and will be accompanied by a vibrant presence at Piccadilly Circus in London and various activations across the UK. This move coincides with John Lewis’ strategic growth efforts under the leadership of Peter Ruis, as the retailer continues its transformation plan.
Peter Ruis, managing director of John Lewis, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing its fashion offerings by investing in renowned brands like Topshop. He sees this collaboration as a significant step in establishing John Lewis as a leading fashion authority on the British high street.
In addition to Topshop’s return, John Lewis is introducing 14 new fashion, jewelry, and accessory brands this season, further enriching its product offerings and solidifying its position in the retail market.
