Mark Allen graciously accepted defeat after losing the Home Nations Series bonus to Jack Lisowski and humorously mentioned that he “cried himself to sleep” when the £150,000 prize slipped through his fingers.
Lisowski staged a remarkable comeback, highlighted by a superb break of 78 in the final frame of his semi-final match against John Higgins, securing his place in the final and claiming the substantial jackpot.
Initially leading the rankings throughout the Home Nations campaign, Allen missed his chance to secure the cash prize after a disappointing performance in the Welsh Open, allowing one of his competitors to seize the opportunity.
Having clinched victory at the English Open in September and making consecutive semi-final appearances in the Northern Ireland and Scottish Opens, Allen’s winning streak came to an end in Wales with a first-round defeat to David Grace.
Despite congratulating Lisowski on his win, Allen expressed his disappointment, stating on social media that it was the fourth time in six years he had finished in second place, adding that he “cried himself to sleep” after posting about it.
Lisowski, who was among the few contenders capable of claiming the jackpot, demonstrated resilience by overcoming a deficit against Higgins and maintaining composure under pressure to secure the win and the cash prize.
Reflecting on his winning break, Lisowski emphasized the importance of continuous potting and staying focused until receiving applause from the audience, acknowledging the challenging shots he successfully executed.
Looking ahead to the final against Barry Hawkins, Lisowski emphasized the need to maintain momentum and focus, highlighting the competitive nature of the sport and the need to remain prepared for the next challenge.
